Electrical Panels Manager (EPM)
Electrical Panels Manager is a purpose-built Autodesk® Revit® add-in for electrical engineers and BIM coordinators. It consolidates panel data management, cable sizing, voltage drop analysis, and short-circuit studies into a single streamlined interface — without leaving Revit.
PANEL PROPERTIES MANAGEMENT
View and edit all critical panel data in one place: panel name, location, mains rating, CB rating, enclosure type, number of slots, and comments. EPM reads directly from Revit's built-in electrical parameters and writes changes back to the model in a single transaction. Multi-panel selection enables batch edits and the auto-calculation of mains and CB ratings across the entire project with one click.
Auto-naming generates standardized panel identifiers based on user-defined prefix, reference code, separator, start index, and increment — consistent with project naming conventions and grouped by level or location.
CABLE SIZING — IEC 60364-5-52
The integrated cable sizer selects the minimum adequate copper XLPE cable section per IEC 60364-5-52, accounting for:
- CB rating and 80% design current rule (IEC 60364-4-43)
- Installation method derating (Enclosed/Conduit B1, Clipped Direct C, Underground D)
- Full impedance voltage drop formula: ΔV = √3 × I × L × (R·cosφ + X·sinφ) for three-phase circuits
- Conductor resistance at 90°C operating temperature per IEC 60228
- User-defined maximum voltage drop limit
- Parallel conductor sets when no single cable satisfies the constraint
Results are written directly to the Revit model as shared parameters (Cable_Size_IEC, Cable_Length_m) on each panel element.
VOLTAGE DROP & SHORT-CIRCUIT ANALYSIS — IEC 60909
The VD & Fault Study tab performs a full upstream impedance analysis per IEC 60909-0:
- Symmetrical initial short-circuit current Ik″
- Peak short-circuit current ip with κ factor
- Equivalent thermal short-circuit current Ith (1s)
- Total impedance breakdown (source + transformer + cable)
- Voltage factor c per IEC 60909-0 Table 1 (cmax = 1.05 for LV breaker sizing)
- Protection type recommendation and required breaking capacity per IEC 60947-2 / IEC 60898
REPORTING — EXCEL & PDF
Export a complete panel schedule to Excel (XLSX) with load summary, calculated currents, CB ratings, cable sizes, voltage drop values, and overload flagging. A second sheet provides project-level totals and statistics.
PDF reports are generated for both the panel schedule and the VD & SC engineering analysis, formatted for submission to clients or authorities.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Are there any known issues with this product?
- Parameters belonging to linked model elements are read-only and cannot be edited from the host model (this is a Revit API limitation).
- When inspecting a linked model element, clicking Show in Revit selects the RevitLinkInstance rather than the individual element in Revit's Properties panel.
- View navigation (double-click to open) is only available for host model views; linked model views cannot be opened.
- Editing certain system-level or read-only Built-in parameters may fail silently; the status bar will report the failure count.
- Global parameters and shared parameter definitions are displayed for reference only and are not directly editable through this tool.
- The add-in requires an active internet connection at launch for entitlement verification. If the network is unavailable, the tool will not open.
