Famiglia - Composite Family Round-Trip

AvantLeap

Automate composite family management in Autodesk® Revit®: join instances into a new family, separate composites back into components, and place families along curves—all from the ribbon.

$39.00

Famiglia is an Autodesk® Revit® add-in that automates the complete round-trip workflow for composite family management from three ribbon buttons, with no scripting or manual Family Editor work required.

Join Family combines two or more project instances into a new composite family (RFA). The tool creates the family document, loads each component, preserves world positions and rotations relative to the group centroid, saves the RFA to a temporary location, and reloads it into the project at the centroid of the original selection. This process typically takes under 30 seconds, instead of the 30 to 60 minutes the same work takes by hand.

Separate Family works in the opposite direction. Select a composite family instance, and Famiglia disassembles it back into individual component instances at their exact original world positions, preserving horizontal rotation and Z elevation. The composite family instance is removed once all components have been placed successfully. Face-based components that cannot be placed by coordinate are skipped, and a warning is reported for each one.

With Place Along Curve, you select a model curve in the active view, choose a family type from the list, and enter a spacing value in millimeters. Famiglia then places instances at equal intervals along the entire length of the curve.

Key Features

  • Round-trip composite family workflow—Join and Separate in one tool.
  • Preserves world position, rotation, and Z elevation during both Join and Separate operations.
  • Automatic Generic Model template discovery—no manual template selection required.
  • Place Along Curve with configurable equal spacing in millimeters.
  • A diagnostic log file is generated for each operation, to simplify troubleshooting.
  • A single installer supports Autodesk® Revit® 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.

Note

Join Family and Separate Family support point-placed families (those with a LocationPoint). Face-based and wall-based families are not supported in this release.

Note: This app uses a custom installer (and not the standard App Store installer).

System Requirements

  • Revit 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, or 2027
  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Minimum 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended for large models with many families)

Compatibility

Supports Revit 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027. All versions are included in a single installer.

Entitlement

A single license check is performed against the Autodesk App Store Entitlement API once per Revit session. No data is sent to AvantLeap servers. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

No known critical issues exist in this version.

Known Limitations

  • Face-based and wall-based families are not supported by the Join or Separate commands. Only point-placed families (with a LocationPoint) can be processed. Face-based nested families within a composite are skipped during Separate, and a warning is displayed for each skipped family.

  • Rotation is preserved only around the vertical Z axis. Families rotated about the X or Y axes (tilted) may not restore their exact tilt after Separate.
