Material Takeoff by BKJ Automation automates the most time-consuming part of early-stage cost estimating in Autodesk® Revit®. Material Takeoff is built for architects, project managers, estimators, and BIM coordinators who need fast, reliable material quantities and cost estimates directly from a Revit model. Workflow:

1. Open your Revit project and click Material Takeoff on the Add-Ins tab.

2. The tool automatically scans all walls, floors, ceilings, and finishes in the model.

3. Materials are matched against the RSMeans 2025 database and unit costs are applied.

4. Review the Bill of Materials, apply markup and overhead percentages, and filter by room.

5. Export to PDF for client presentations or CSV for further analysis in Excel.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

System Requirements:

- Revit 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, or 2027 (64-bit)

- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)

- .NET Framework 4.8 or higher

- Active Autodesk account (required for subscription validation)

- Internet connection recommended for license verification (the plugin fails open if offline, so users behind strict firewalls are not blocked

 

Notes:

- Material costs are based on the RSMeans 2025 database. Costs reflect national averages and should be adjusted for local market conditions using the markup and overhead fields provided.

- Elements are collected from the active model. Use the "Include Linked Models" toggle to extend the takeoff to linked Revit files.

- Use the "Selection Only" toggle to run the takeoff on a subset of elements pre-selected in the model before opening the tool.

- Exported PDF and CSV files are saved to a location of your choice at time of export.

- Diagnostic logs are written to %AppData%\PrismTools\Logs\MaterialTakeoff.log for troubleshooting.

- Materials with no RSMeans match are listed with a unit cost of $0.00. Review unmapped materials and apply manual cost overrides in the exported CSV if needed.

- Highlight in model requires an active floor plan, ceiling plan, 3D, section, elevation, or detail view. Highlighting is not available from sheet, schedule, legend, or drafting views.

- Room isolation is limited to view types that support temporary element isolation in Revit (floor plans, ceiling plans, 3D views, sections, elevations). Other view types are skipped automatically.

- On first launch after installation, Revit may display a security warning. Select "Always Load" to prevent this on future launches.
