Reverse: Mesh to BRep Surface Fitting

Ortus Lab

Fits true surfaces to mesh files with geometric accuracy.

$79.99

Reverse turns imported mesh bodies (STL, OBJ, 3MF, etc.) into editable BRep solids inside Autodesk® Fusion®. It reverses the triangulation: instead of leaving you with a tessellated approximation of a part, Reverse reconstructs the true CAD surfaces — planes, cylinders, cones, and spheres — that the mesh was approximating in the first place.

What it's for

If you've ever opened an STL in Fusion and discovered you can't edit it the way you'd edit a normal CAD body, this add-in is the missing tool. The result behaves like CAD instead of like a tessellated artifact: real surfaces with real intent, ready to sketch on, dimension to, fillet, shell, or cut.

Typical workflows include:

  • Recovering an editable model from your own old prints when the source CAD file is gone.
  • Working with parts you only have as a mesh — files from sharing sites, open-hardware projects, or fabrication output that came back without source CAD.
  • Preparing imported meshes so they can be used in assemblies, simulation, CAM, or further design work.

How it differs from Fusion's built-in mesh tools:

  • Fusion's Mesh workspace can convert a mesh into a body, but the result is either still mesh-shaped or a region-by-region approximation. For parts originally made of *real* primitive geometry — flat faces, drilled holes, conical chamfers, spherical ends — Reverse reconstructs those actual primitives instead of approximating them, which is what you usually want for editable CAD.

What you get

  • True BRep surfaces fitted to the mesh points, closely matching the original on well-defined features.
  • Geometry you can sketch on, dimension to, fillet, shell, or cut — the same things you do with any native Fusion solid.
  • A live preview that updates as you mark which mesh points belong to which feature, so you can confirm the fit before committing.
  • An "Auto" mode that picks the right surface type for you when you don't want to think about it.
