VMFlux OBJ Exporter Trial

VMFlux

VMFlux OBJ Exporter exports Navisworks® models to OBJ + MTL with Selected Models/Entire Model, unit scaling control, per-instance grouping, and Navisworks material names + transparency in the MTL.

Trial

VMFlux ObjExporter is a lightweight, production-focused OBJ exporter for Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage 2024–2027. It exports model geometry to Wavefront OBJ and writes a companion MTL file that preserves practical material information for downstream DCC workflows.

What it exports

OBJ geometry with per-instance groups, helping repeated elements remain organized and easier to work with after import.

MTL materials using the real Navisworks material names (e.g., Glass, Stainless Steel, and Concrete) to keep your material workflow consistent across tools.

Transparency/opacity for materials written into the MTL (using d/Tr) for glass and other transparent materials.

Export options

Export scope: Selected Models or Entire Model

Output units: mm, cm, m, km, in, ft, yd, mi

Option: Keep numeric values (no unit scaling) to preserve raw model numbers when needed

VMFlux ObjExporter is designed for stability on typical models.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Specifications

• Supported versions: Navisworks Manage 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 (Windows 64-bit).

• Export formats: Wavefront OBJ + MTL.

• Materials: Exports Navisworks material names and transparency/opacity in the MTL (d/Tr).

• Units: Choose target units or enable “Keep numeric values (no unit scaling)”.

Import Tips

• Some applications interpret MTL transparency differently (d vs. Tr). If opacity looks wrong, try toggling the importer’s transparency settings.

• Large coordination models can produce very large OBJ files—export to a fast local drive for best performance.

Known issues/limitations

• Texture maps: MTL focuses on material names + basic properties (including opacity). Texture maps may not be written depending on the Navisworks material definition.

• Transparency: some OBJ importers ignore Tr/d or handle them differently.

• Special characters: if a material name contains unsupported characters, it may be sanitized for OBJ/MTL compatibility.

• Very large models may generate very large files and longer export times.
