Document Controller - Automated Drawing Reviewer

Document Controller is an automated drawing review plugin for Autodesk® Revit®, developed to support architects, engineers, and BIM managers in maintaining documentation quality across project teams.

$249.00

Document Controller is an automated drawing review plugin for Autodesk® Revit®, developed to support architects, engineers, and BIM managers in maintaining documentation quality across project teams. The plugin runs a configurable suite of quality-assurance checks on every selected sheet — identifying inconsistencies in sheet metadata, title block completeness, revision data, viewport composition, and annotation placement that frequently precede issuance errors and downstream coordination problems.

With a single command, Document Controller processes the full check set and presents results in a unified report, grouped by sheet and categorised as Pass, Warning, or Fail. Each finding is linked to the corresponding element IDs in the model, enabling reviewers to address issues directly within Revit without manual cross-referencing.

Checks at a glance:

Sheet Validation

- Sheet number format against a custom regex pattern (e.g. A-101, M-250).

- Title block completeness — Project Number, Project Name, Drawn By, Checked By, and any custom parameter you specify.

- Revision validation — numbers, dates, and descriptions present and correctly filled.

- Revision date chronology — flags revisions that are out of order. Supports DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, and YYYY-MM-DD.

Text Analysis

- Spell check on text annotations, dimension overrides, and title block parameters.

- English (US) and English (GB) Hunspell dictionaries.

- Built-in architectural and technical word list (soffit, parapet, HVAC, GFCI, LEED, etc.) to reduce false positives.

- Custom project dictionary for firm-specific or project-specific terms.

Drawing Analysis

- Colour compliance — enforce Black & White, Black/White/Red, or unrestricted policies for tender, planning, or consultant submissions.

- Viewport bounds — flags titles or boxes that extend past the sheet edge.

- Text overlap — detects annotations overlapping each other or sitting over viewport boxes.

- Duplicate annotation tags — flags elements tagged more than once, including rooms and spaces.

- Visible reference planes — flags views where reference planes are still showing.

- Grid alignment — checks that grid bubbles are consistent across viewports on the same sheet.

Information Extraction

- Bulk export of sheet metadata (sheet number, name, drawn by, checked by, issue date, revision date, discipline, phase, status, scale) across all selected sheets — useful for issue records, consultant submissions, or as a cover-sheet input.

Built for real practice workflows:

Configurable to your standards. Check rules live in plain-text JSON files in your AppData folder. Your BIM Manager defines the firm-wide standard once, distributes the file by shared drive or Git, and the whole team runs the same checks. Templates can be downloaded from within the plugin, edited, and uploaded back.

Modeless. The window sits alongside Revit, so the application stays responsive while checks run — review one sheet, jump back into the model, fix the issue, re-run.

Multi-version. A single install supports Revit 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Private. Document Controller does not transmit your project data, drawings, or model contents. It contacts only Autodesk's entitlement API for licence validation and an anonymised error-reporting service for crash reports.

Who it's for: the BIM lead who needs to enforce standards without becoming a bottleneck. The senior architect who wants to issue a clean drawing set the first time. The principal who's tired of revisions after issue.

Trial and licensing: 30-day free trial, full feature set, no credit card required. One-time purchase per Autodesk account, with free updates across the 1.x version family. No recurring subscription.

Getting help

For all support enquiries, please contact:

Email: hello@hoptools.studio

Website: https://hoptools.studio/

Response time: We aim to respond to all support emails within 2 business days (UK working hours).

When reporting an issue, please include

1. Your Revit version (Help → About Revit).

2. The Document Controller version (shown on the main window's title bar).

3. A description of what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.

4. If possible, the Revit model file (or a stripped-down version reproducing the issue).

5. Any screenshot of the error message.

Known issues / limitations:

- Document Controller requires an open Revit document. The plugin will close itself if the active document is closed during a session.

- Spell-check supports English (US) and English (GB) only at present.

- Licence validation requires a one-time internet connection; thereafter the plugin works offline for up to 7 days.

- Trial period is per Autodesk user account, not per machine.

Privacy and data handling:

Document Controller does not transmit your project data, drawings, or model contents. The plugin connects to two external services:

1. Autodesk Entitlement API — to verify your licence. Only your Autodesk user ID and the plugin's App ID are sent.

2. Sentry (error logging) — anonymised crash and error reports help us fix bugs. No model data is included. We use a hashed, anonymous identifier (no email, name, or machine name in clear text).
