Model GPS is a "you are here" panel for Autodesk® Navisworks®. As you fly through a coordination model it continuously answers the question every reviewer asks — where am I, and what's around me — without clicking, measuring, or leaving the view.
As you navigate, the docked panel updates live with:
- ROOM — the room name, number, and level you are currently inside (from the Autodesk® Revit® rooms in the model).
- CEILING — the clear height above finished floor to the ceiling directly above you, plus its type, assembly, and thickness. Because MEP coordination happens in the plenum above the ceiling, Model GPS keeps reporting your room even when the camera rises above the ceiling into the deck space.
- GRID — the nearest column grid-line intersection (e.g. C-4), the standard way to call out a location on a coordination call.
- GO TO LOCATION — type a room number/name or a grid reference (e.g. "406" or "C-4") and Model GPS flies the camera straight to it.
Read-only by design: Model GPS never modifies, saves, or exports your model. It only reads and displays.
Requirements for full information: the model must carry the source data — Revit rooms exported with room geometry, plus ceilings and grids. Where a piece of data is not present, the panel says so gracefully rather than guessing.
Who it is for: MEP and multi-trade coordinators, VDC teams, and anyone running clash/coordination reviews in Navisworks who needs constant room, height, and grid context while they navigate.
Supported: Navisworks Manage and Simulate, 2020 through 2027. (Navisworks Freedom does not support add-ins.)

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What else should I know about this product?
Model GPS is read-only — it never modifies, saves, or exports the model. Values shown (clear heights, grid references) are approximate positional aids and are not a substitute for verified measurements or contract documents. System requirements: same as the supported Navisworks version; Windows 64-bit; Navisworks Manage or Simulate (Freedom is not supported).
Are there any known issues with this product?
Room, ceiling, and grid readouts depend on that data existing in the model: rooms must be exported from Revit with "Export room geometry" ON, and the model must contain ceiling and grid elements. Room and ceiling matching uses axis-aligned bounding boxes, so L-shaped rooms and sloped ceilings are approximate near their edges. Grid intersection is computed for orthogonal, axis-aligned grids. In a federated model where linked files sit at different Z heights, ceiling clear height is read from the Revit "Height Offset From Level" parameter rather than geometry.
