Ediphi's Autodesk Forma® Preconstruction integration connects your quantity takeoff workflow directly to your construction estimate, allowing estimators to move seamlessly from quantity measurement to pricing without manually transferring data between systems. Perform quantity takeoffs using uploaded 2D drawings or extract quantities directly from uploaded Autodesk® Revit® models in Autodesk Forma Preconstruction, then synchronize those quantities with your Ediphi estimate whenever you are ready. The integration maintains a relationship between your Autodesk Forma Preconstruction takeoffs and your Ediphi estimate, making it easy to keep both systems aligned throughout the estimating process.

To prepare your workflow, create Takeoff Types within Autodesk Forma Preconstruction and configure Output Definitions that correspond to items in your Ediphi Unit Price Catalog (UPC). Output Definitions define how measured quantities are categorized and provide the mapping between Autodesk Forma Preconstruction and Ediphi. Classification Systems can also be configured to organize takeoff data according to your company's standards or industry classification systems. Once your Output Definitions have been mapped to your Ediphi UPC, every quantity measured in Autodesk Forma Preconstruction knows which estimate item it belongs to. Your Ediphi Customer Success representative can assist with importing and configuring your UPC in Autodesk Forma Preconstruction using Output Definitions and Classifications to ensure your mappings are accurate before your team begins estimating.

When you synchronize your project, Ediphi reviews the takeoff results and automatically creates estimate line items for mapped quantities that do not yet exist in the estimate. Existing linked line items are recognized automatically, allowing subsequent synchronizations to update their quantities instead of creating duplicates. This allows estimators to build an estimate directly from Autodesk Forma Preconstruction while preserving the relationship between each estimate item and its originating takeoff.

As project documents evolve, continue performing takeoffs on revised drawing sets or updated Revit models inside Autodesk Forma Preconstruction. When new quantities are available, initiate a synchronization from Ediphi to review the proposed changes before applying them to your estimate. Because synchronization occurs only when initiated by the user, estimators remain in complete control of when estimate quantities are created or updated. This review process allows teams to validate revisions before committing them while continuing to manage pricing, labor, production rates, markups, alternates, and other estimate details within Ediphi.

The integration is designed to support the full lifecycle of preconstruction. As designs change and additional scope is quantified, simply update your takeoffs in Autodesk Forma Preconstruction and synchronize again. Newly mapped quantities can create additional estimate line items, while existing linked items receive updated quantities without requiring manual re-entry. By maintaining the connection between Autodesk Forma Preconstruction and Ediphi throughout the project, the integration reduces duplicate work, minimizes manual data entry, improves estimate accuracy, and helps ensure that your estimate always reflects the latest validated quantity information.

Authentication: The integration uses Autodesk’s 3-legged OAuth authentication. Users sign in with their Autodesk account and explicitly authorize Ediphi to access only the Autodesk projects that they already have permission to view. After authentication, Ediphi uses the authorized user session to retrieve available hubs, Takeoff-enabled projects, packages, takeoff types, takeoff items, project users, and related project information, and to synchronize quantity data between Autodesk Forma Preconstruction and the corresponding Ediphi estimate. The integration does not use 2-legged authentication. This authentication model ensures that all Autodesk data accessed by Ediphi is limited to the permissions of the authenticated user.
