Fusion to Fuse
Autodesk, Inc.Fusion to Fuse
Autodesk, Inc.Send 3D-nested additive setups from Autodesk® Fusion® Manufacture to Formlabs Fuse SLS printers via PreFormServer, with your layout preserved, or save them as PreForm .form files.
Free
Fusion to Fuse is an add-in for Fusion that connects the Manufacture workspace directly to Formlabs Fuse SLS printers. Instead of exporting files and rebuilding your build in PreForm, you send the additive setup you nested in Fusion straight to the printer, or save it as a PreForm .form file, without leaving Fusion.
The add-in adds a Send to Fuse button to the Actions panel of the Manufacture workspace. The button only appears when the active additive setup uses a Formlabs Fuse machine, keeping the toolbar uncluttered.
Simple Three-Step Workflow
- Login — Sign in with your Formlabs account. Your session is remembered, so you only sign in again after logging out.
- Select Printer — Pick from the Fuse printers found on your network and in your Formlabs Dashboard account, with each printer's model, status, and loaded material.
- Configure and Send — Choose a print setting for the loaded material, name the job, and send it to the printer or save it as a .form file.
Key Features
- Your 3D nesting is preserved — The setup is exported as a 3MF and imported into PreForm with every part kept separate and exactly where you placed it in Fusion, the equivalent of PreForm's "Separate and Preserve Layout". The add-in aligns Fusion's platform with PreForm's automatically for every Fuse machine in the Fusion library.
- Save as .form — Save the prepared build as a PreForm .form file to archive it, review it in PreForm, or send it later.
- Print time and material estimates — See the total print time, cooling time before removal, total and sintered powder, and mass packing density before or after you send.
- Build checks before printing — The add-in checks the build in Fusion and again in PreForm. If any part does not fit the printer, the job is stopped and the parts are listed by name. Overlapping parts are reported as a warning.
- Mismatch warnings — You are warned when the setup's Fusion machine is a different printer model than the selected printer, or when the setup was prepared for a different material than the one loaded in the printer.
- Print settings from PreForm — Print settings for the loaded material are read live from PreFormServer, so new materials and settings appear without updating the add-in. PreForm's recommended setting is pre-selected.
- Cancel — Cancel a job while it is being prepared, before it reaches the printer.
- Responsive Fusion — All communication with PreFormServer runs in the background, so Fusion stays usable while a job is prepared and sent.
- PreFormServer auto-start — If PreFormServer is not running, the add-in starts it from common installation locations and checks that it is new enough.
- Fuse 1, Fuse 1+ and Fuse X1 — The printer model, machine type, and available materials are detected automatically.
Supported Materials
All Fuse materials offered by your PreFormServer version, including Nylon 12, Nylon 12 GF, Nylon 12 Tough, Nylon 12 White, Nylon 11, Nylon 11 CF, Nylon 11 Pro, TPU 90A and Polypropylene, depending on the printer model.
Requirements
Formlabs PreFormServer 3.64 or newer must be installed on your computer. It is a free download from Formlabs: https://support.formlabs.com/s/article/Formlabs-API-downloads-and-release-notes. You also need a Formlabs account and a Fuse printer on your network or in your Formlabs Dashboard account.
Fusion to Fuse removes repetitive file handling, catches build problems before they reach the printer, and keeps the layout you designed in Fusion all the way to the Fuse printer.

What else should I know about this product?
Supported Printers
Formlabs Fuse 1, Fuse 1+ and Fuse X1. Other devices, such as Fuse Sift and Fuse Blast, are not listed.
Supported Materials
Every Fuse material and print setting your PreFormServer version offers for the printer model, read live from PreFormServer. The material check uses the material in the Fusion machine name, for example "Fuse 1+ (Nylon 12 GF)".
Software Requirements
- Autodesk Fusion with the Manufacture workspace and additive setups.
- Formlabs PreFormServer 3.64 or newer (PreForm API v1), installed locally: https://support.formlabs.com/s/article/Formlabs-API-downloads-and-release-notes
- A Formlabs account
Network Requirements
- PreFormServer runs on your computer (127.0.0.1, port 44388).
- Printers must be on your network or in your Formlabs Dashboard account.
Platform Support
Windows (Win64) and macOS.
Settings Storage
Settings and the login session token are stored in ~/.fusion2fuse/settings.json. Your password is never saved. Delete this file to reset all settings.
Geometry Processing
The setup is exported as a 3MF with Fusion's CAM export and imported into PreFormServer with every part separate and in its Fusion position, the API equivalent of PreForm's "Separate and Preserve Layout".
Platform Origin
Fusion's Formlabs machines, and PreForm desktop when it opens a 3MF, put (0, 0) at the platform's front-left corner, so a 3MF exported from Fusion opens in PreForm desktop in place. The PreFormServer API puts (0, 0) at the center, so the add-in shifts the build by half the machine's platform size (82.5 mm on Fuse 1 and Fuse 1+, 165 mm on Fuse X1) before import. The Fusion build volume check excludes the machine's frame width and ceiling clearance.
Are there any known issues with this product?
Cancel during sending: PreFormServer cannot stop an upload that has started. If you cancel while "Sending to printer" is shown, the job may still arrive; remove it from the printer's queue.
Parts outside the build volume: PreFormServer moves any part that extends past the build volume back inside it. The add-in stops and lists those parts instead of sending a changed build. The check in Fusion uses a rectangular volume, so parts near the rounded platform corners are only caught by the PreForm check.
Powder values are shown as 0.00 kg on the printer screen: For jobs sent through PreFormServer, the printer's screen shows "Total Powder" and "Fused Powder" as 0. This does not affect the print. The add-in's result screen shows the correct powder estimates.
