Layer Sync is an add-in for Autodesk® Revit® by thebimbay that automatically extracts compound structure layer data from wall, floor, ceiling, and roof types and writes it to a shared parameter — making layer information instantly available in schedules, tags, and reports without any manual work.

HOW IT WORKS:

Revit stores layer data (material name, thickness, function) inside compound structures, but doesn't expose that information directly in schedules. Layer Sync bridges this gap by reading each layer of a type and writing a fully customizable string representation into the shared parameter "tbb-Layers", which is automatically added to your project on first use.

DATA TEMPLATE:

You control exactly what gets written using a simple template syntax. Wrap any material parameter name or the built-in thickness token in double square brackets:

[[Name]] — [[tbb-Layer-Thickness]]

Layer Sync evaluates the template for every layer and concatenates the results into a single multi-line string. You can insert any shared or built-in material parameter — text, number, boolean, or element reference — and the add-in will format it correctly, including unit conversion.

KEY FEATURES:

• Automatic Synchronization — Layers are kept in sync whenever a project is opened or created, or whenever a wall/floor/ceiling/roof type or material is modified. No manual intervention required.

• Configurable Data Template — Build your template interactively: pick parameters from a drop-down list populated from materials in your project and insert them with one click.

• Unit Override — Override Revit's project units specifically for layer thickness output. Choose from millimetres, centimetres, metres, decimal feet, fractional feet-inches and more, with full control over rounding and digit grouping.

• Reverse Layer Order — Optionally flip the layer order so the exterior face is listed first or last, matching your office standard.

• Manual Sync & Clear — Force an immediate full synchronisation at any time, or clear all written data with a single click.
