Floor Finish & Cutting Optimization for Revit
Creating floor finishes and ceramic tile layouts manually in Revit can be repetitive, time-consuming, and prone to errors—especially when dealing with multiple rooms, irregular boundaries, tile cutting, and material quantity calculations. Estimating cutting waste and reusing off-cuts often requires additional calculations outside Revit.
Floor Finish & Cutting Optimization automates the entire workflow by generating floor finish elements, creating tile layouts, performing cutting optimization, and producing detailed quantity take-off reports directly inside Revit.
The tool works with both Rooms and existing Floor elements as input. Users can assign floor finish types, define top offsets, and generate either a single floor finish per room or a fully tiled layout where each ceramic tile is created and clipped precisely to the room boundary using advanced polygon clipping algorithms.
For visualization and documentation purposes, the tool generates Filled Regions in the active plan view, with every tile represented individually and clipped accurately to the room or floor outline. Tiles can be automatically numbered and colour-coded to distinguish full tiles from cut pieces, and tile information can be written directly to Revit parameters such as Comments or Mark.
The cutting optimization engine calculates the exact number of full tiles and cut pieces required for each room, identifies reusable off-cuts, and determines the minimum number of tiles that need to be purchased after considering available leftovers. Users can also import an off-cut stock file from Excel, allowing the tool to reuse existing remnants before recommending additional material quantities.
Additionally, an Analysis tab enables users to evaluate already placed tile Floors or Filled Regions without generating new geometry, producing the same take-off and cutting reports based on existing model elements.
Results can be exported to Excel or printed directly to PDF for documentation, estimation, and project delivery.
