Copy Remove Parameters

BKJ Automation

Copy, rename, remove, and batch-apply parameters across Autodesk® Revit® families. Select a source family, choose parameters, and apply them to multiple target families with full Ctrl+Z undo support.

$3.99/month

Copy Family Parameters by BKJ Automation eliminates the tedious manual process of re-creating the same parameter definitions across multiple Revit families. Define your parameters once in a source family, then batch-copy them to any number of target families in a single operation.

Key Features:

  • Batch Copy Parameters: Select a source family, check the parameters you want to copy, choose your target families, and click Run Copy. All selected parameters are added to every target family in one step.
  • Remove Parameters: Select a source family to view its parameters, check the ones you want to delete, and click Remove. Parameters are removed from the source family immediately — no need to open each family manually in the family editor.
  • Category Filter: Filter the target family list by Revit category to quickly find the families you need without scrolling through the entire project.
  • Override Names: Assign a custom name for each parameter as it is copied to the target family. Leave the field blank to keep the original name.
  • Copy Type Values: For Type parameters, optionally copy the stored values to matching family types in the target family. Useful when duplicating a parameterized family with consistent default values.
  • Shared Parameter Support: Shared parameters are fully supported. Browse to your shared parameter file and the tool will locate the correct definition automatically.
  • Overwrite Control: Choose whether to skip parameters that already exist in the target family, or allow the tool to report them as skipped so you know exactly what changed.
  • Single Undo Step: The entire batch operation — across all target families — is wrapped in a single TransactionGroup, so one Ctrl+Z undoes everything at once.
  • Schedule Conflict Detection: If a parameter being renamed (via override name) is currently used in a project schedule, the tool warns you before proceeding so you don't accidentally break schedule column bindings.

Developed by BKJ Automation. Compatible with Revit 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

System Requirements:

- Revit 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, or 2027

- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)

- .NET Framework 4.8 or higher

Notes:

- Shared parameters require a valid shared parameter file (.txt). Use the Browse button in the tool to select your file before running a copy operation.

- Only non-shared Family parameters can be removed via the Remove feature. Shared parameters cannot be deleted through the Revit Family Manager API and will be blocked with a warning.

- Instance parameter values cannot be copied to target families (Revit API limitation). The Copy Values checkbox is automatically disabled for Instance parameters.

- The tool operates on families loaded in the current project. Families must be present in the project model to appear in the source and target lists.

- All operations support a single Ctrl+Z to undo the entire batch.

- If a target family is currently open for editing in the family editor, the tool cannot open it and will report it as failed. Close the family editor before running the operation.

- Revit does not allow changing the storage type or parameter group of an existing parameter. If a parameter with the same name already exists in a target family, it will be skipped even with "Overwrite existing" enabled.

- On first launch after installation, Revit displays a security warning asking you to confirm loading the add-in. Select "Always Load" to suppress this on future launches.

- Shared parameters are matched by name within the shared parameter file. If your file contains duplicate parameter names across different groups, the first match found will be used.
