Ostacolo - Clash Detection & Tracking

AvantLeap

OSTACOLO is an Autodesk® Revit® add-in that detects, tracks, and manages geometric clashes between structural, architectural, and MEP elements directly within your Revit model.

$19.00

OSTACOLO is an Autodesk® Revit® add-in that automates clash detection, tracking, and resolution management directly within your Revit model. Unlike external clash-detection workflows that require round-trips through separate coordination software, OSTACOLO keeps your entire coordination process inside Revit — storing clash data persistently in your project file using Extensible Storage and a structured JSON database.

The tool detects geometric clashes across five configurable discipline protocols: Structural vs MEP, Architecture RC (Roofs, Floors, Ceilings) vs Structural & MEP, Architecture WD (Windows, Doors) vs Structural & MEP, MEP Internal (clashes within MEP disciplines), and a combined All protocol. Each protocol supports Hard Clash mode — detecting physical intersection between element solids — or Clearance mode, which flags elements that come within a user-defined minimum distance without touching.

When OSTACOLO detects a clash, it places a visual Clash Sphere family instance at the intersection point in the Revit model. Each sphere is linked to a complete clash record containing a global project ID, building-local ID, detection workflow, current status, element IDs of both clashing elements, intersection coordinates, clash volume, creation date, and the username of the detecting user. This data is simultaneously written to the model's Extensible Storage and to a structured JSON file, enabling both in-model tracking and offline data sharing with coordinators who do not have Revit access.

The clash dashboard (View Clashes) provides a central interface for browsing, filtering, navigating, and managing all detected clashes. Users can filter by status, workflow, building, or date, navigate directly to any clash in a 3D view, and update status through a four-state workflow: Open, In Progress, Closed, and Ignored. The cross-building Clash Reviewer aggregates records from multiple linked models that share the same project name, giving project leads a global view across all buildings on a scheme. The JSON Manager provides a non-destructive sync — pull status updates from a JSON file updated offline, or push model data out for sharing, without overwriting detection records.

Key Features:

• Five discipline-specific detection protocols covering Structural, Architecture, and MEP element categories

• Hard Clash and Clearance detection modes with configurable distance in millimetres

• Visual Clash Sphere markers at intersection points, automatically loaded on first run

• Dual storage: Extensible Storage (model-persistent) and JSON database (shareable offline)

• Four-status tracking workflow: Open, In Progress, Closed, Ignored

• Multi-building project support with cross-building Clash Reviewer

• Non-destructive JSON sync: Update Model from JSON and Update JSON from Model

• Revit 2021 through 2026 supported in a single installer

Note: OSTACOLO requires an active Revit project. Detection runs on the open model and any loaded Revit link instances. Results are stored per-building and per-project using the names configured in the File Config settings.

Note: This app uses a custom installer (and not the standard App Store installer).

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

The Clash detection tool is a sample development to display Avant Leap's capabilities to develop cutting-edge workflows and automation for BIM project management. As we receive increasing user consumption of this tool or particular development solicitudes we'll extend and empower its capabilities.

Here is the Quick Guide: Quick Guide Clash Detection | Avant Leap

No known critical issues in this version.

Detection on very large models with many linked files may take several minutes depending on available system memory and the number of elements in the selected categories. Using a specific protocol (e.g., Structural vs MEP) rather than All will reduce run time significantly.
