Editable frames, weld beads and costs, frame stress and deflection checks, and PDF/CSV/DXF exports.

$12.00/month

  • Steel Frame & Weldments Pro brings editable structural framing, weld modelling, frame analysis and fabrication planning into Autodesk® Fusion®. It includes the Standard framing tools and adds workflows for reviewing loads, estimating welding work and preparing cutting files from the same model. It is built for fabricators, welders, machine builders, furniture makers and mechanical designers.
  • Weld modelling and estimates
  • Detect contact seams between selected Weldments parts, a frame or the design. Preview the seams and create supported fillet beads with Smooth or Textured surfaces and optional physical Rippled bead geometry. Use intermittent welding on straight seams, exclude unwanted seams, and generate a weld schedule with joint IDs, joined parts, welded lengths and estimated deposited mass. Weld Cost estimates consumables, arc time, labour time and cost using editable MIG, flux-cored, TIG and stick process settings. Approximate quantities are identified in the schedule; changing the visual ripple finish does not change the costing basis.
  • Frame Check: forces, stress and deflection
  • Apply self-weight, a distributed payload, a horizontal push, loads on planar member faces and downward point loads. Choose automatic or custom supports, material properties and a deflection limit. Frame Check calculates member forces and moments, screens stress and deflection, colours members by utilisation, and exports numbered PDF and CSV reports. Use the results to compare supported frame designs under the loads you enter. The calculation uses an idealised linear-static beam model; its scope and assumptions are recorded with the results.
  • Editable frames and fabrication details
  • Create grouped frames from sketch paths or model edges. Set each group's profile, anchor, rotation, offsets and joint priority, with miter, butt and coped end treatments, weld gaps and per-corner overrides. Reopen a saved frame to change its definition and rebuild it. Recorded plates, Tab/Slot joints and weld runs reapply after supported edits, with unsuccessful items reported for review.
  • Add editable gussets, end caps and base plates. Base plates offer overhang or explicit sizing, rectangular or circular bolt patterns, slotted holes and corner treatments. Tab/Slot locating joints support member-to-member, member-to-base-plate and gusset-to-member connections, with adjustable fit clearance and placement preview. Manual Notch, Miter and Trim/Extend tools handle individual adjustments.
  • The library includes over 600 sizes in 35 families across EN/DIN, ANSI/AISC, JIS and aluminium extrusion standards. Add supplier sizes, import or export library CSV files, or capture custom sections from sketches. Modelling support for a profile does not automatically imply Frame Check support; see the analysis limitations below.
  • Reports and cutting plans
  • Export PDF and CSV cutting lists with model overviews, item balloons, member lengths, end-cut angles, plate dimensions, mass and surface area. Choose mm, cm, m, decimal or fractional inches, or feet. Include the weld schedule and optional weld tags, and write component descriptions for Fusion Drawing Parts Lists.
  • Stock Optimizer plans cuts by profile and material using your stock lengths, saw kerf, end trim and reusable-offcut threshold. Plates to DXF exports unique plate outlines with a quantity index and can nest plates onto stock sheets by material and thickness, with PDF layouts and sheet DXFs.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Requirements: Autodesk Fusion for Windows. Internet access is required for license verification. Keep Capture Design History enabled for supported editing workflows.

Pro includes the Standard framing tools, over 600 profile sizes, custom sketch profiles, weld modelling and estimates, Frame Check, base plates, stock optimization and plate nesting.

Outputs include PDF/CSV cutting lists and analysis reports, welding cost CSV files, bar cutting plans and plate DXFs. Plate DXFs use millimetres.

The optional local AI/MCP server is disabled by default. License verification does not upload design files or project geometry to the license service.

Large frames and Rippled beads can take longer to preview, rebuild or export. Some curved or complex contacts may have incomplete bead solids.

Fillet is currently the selectable weld type. Intermittent welding requires straight seams. Weld quantities and costs are estimates; approximate values are marked ~.

Frame Check uses an idealised straight-beam model. Curved or disconnected members are reported as skipped. Unsupported custom profiles, including T-slot/V-slot extrusions, and moved or repeated member components can stop the check. It does not verify local connection strength, buckling resistance or code compliance.

Saved details may require rebuilding after unsupported geometry edits. Stock optimization and nesting do not guarantee the smallest possible stock order or layout.
