Smart Slope Generator
Green Road GroupSmart Slope Generator
Green Road GroupDraw professional slope hatching between any two lines in Autodesk® AutoCAD® or Autodesk® Civ. Cut/fill coloring, background mask, 3D slope lines, live preview, & interactive corner adjustment. Free.
Free
Smart Slope Generator draws engineering slope hatching—the tick, batter, and embankment marks used on grading, earthworks, and road design drawings—between any two lines you pick in Autodesk® AutoCAD® or Autodesk® Civil 3D®.
Pick a top line (crest or shoulder) and a bottom line (toe). The plugin stations, one of them, map every station to the other and draw the slope pattern between them. It works with lines, polylines, 3D polylines, arcs, splines, ellipses, and Civil 3D feature lines in both 2D and 3D.
WHAT IT DOES
- Slope hatching between any two curves, at a spacing you choose
- Long/short tick patterns, with adjustable short-stroke length Perpendicular to the top line or to the bottom line—you choose which line drives the spacing, and the plugin tells you which one it is using
- Automatic cut/fill detection with separate colors and layers, plus a generic style when no elevation difference exists
- Background hatch mask that follows the real vertices of your geometry; corners stay sharp, and curves stay curved.
- Triangular tapered bases, drawn as true 2D or 3D geometry
- 3D slope lines that follow the elevations of the source curves
- Live preview that is the real engine output—what you see is what is drawn
INTERACTIVE CORNER ADJUSTMENT
Nearest-point mapping is right almost everywhere, but at a sharp inside corner slope, lines naturally converge. Drag the on-screen preview to spread. them out again exactly as you want them. Your adjustment always wins over the automatic rule, and the background mask follows the strokes you adjusted.
BUILT FOR REAL DRAWINGS
- Entire alignment or a picked chainage range, switchable at any prompt
- Runs in a loop—draw slope after slope until you press Escape
- Per-slope Undo inside the command
- Layer control per section, with ByLayer support and an explicit override when you want to restyle an existing layer
- Metric and imperial: units and sensible defaults follow the drawing's INSUNITS setting
- Objects can be grouped and are placed on layers you control
VERSION 2.0
Version 2.0 is a full rewrite of the geometry engine. Slope lines now gather. correctly into inside corners, closed shapes such as ponds and building pads
Draw all the way round; the background mask follows real vertices. ByLayer and color override were added, and the drawing loop was redesigned so the remembered mode simply runs instead of asking every time.

TECHNICAL NOTES
- Supported hosts: AutoCAD and Civil 3D 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027 (Windows 64-bit)
- Works with lines, polylines, 3D polylines, arcs, splines, ellipses, and Civil 3D feature lines
- Units follow the drawing's INSUNITS setting; metric and imperial are both supported, with unit-appropriate defaults on first run
- All geometry is created on layers you control and can be grouped.
- The plug-in writes nothing outside its own settings folder and does not modify CAD profiles, workspaces, or the ribbon definition file
Are there any known issues with this product?
- Very dense jobs are refused rather than attempted. If the chosen step over the selected range would create an unreasonable number of objects, the plug-in reports the estimate and stops instead of freezing. Increase the hatch pattern step or shorten the range.
- On extremely complex survey geometry, the background hatch boundary may fall back to a simpler outline to keep the hatch fast. A message on the command line says when this happens; the slope lines themselves are unaffected.
- Diagnostic files written by GR_SLOPEDUMP are kept in your user profile and are not removed automatically. They are small text files and can be deleted at any time.
No known defects affecting drawing accuracy.
Is there additional support information provided?

Please include your AutoCAD or Civil 3D version, the plug-in version, and a short description of what you were doing when the problem occurred.
If the plug-in drew something unexpected, type GR_SLOPEDUMP after it happens. This writes a small diagnostic file recording the geometry you picked and the settings you used and tells you where it saved it. Attaching that file lets the exact case be reproduced and fixed quickly. It contains only the two curves' geometry and your slope settings—no drawing content and no personal data.
Full documentation is included with the plug-in and opens from the question mark button in the settings window or by pressing F1 on the ribbon button. Responses are normally within two business days.
