PVX.Cad turns Autodesk® AutoCAD® into a terrain-aware solar design platform for utility-scale PV projects, helping teams automate grading, layout optimization, cabling, and construction-ready exports

Trial

PVX.Cad is an AutoCAD extension for utility-scale, ground-mount solar PV design. It helps engineering teams create terrain-aware, construction-ready layouts with automated grading, cut/fill analysis, slope-aware rack placement, cable routing, pile coordinates, and exports to PVsyst, LandXML, DWG/DXF, CSV, and KML.

PVX.Cad helps solar engineering teams design buildable utility-scale PV projects directly inside AutoCAD. Analyze terrain, optimize grading, place racks, route cables, compare design scenarios, and export construction-ready deliverables from a single CAD workflow.

PVX.Cad is fully localized in English, German, Italian, Spanish and Turkish.

Note: This app uses a custom installer (and not the standard Design and Make Marketplace installer).

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

System requirements: Windows with AutoCAD 2021 or later. Design work runs locally inside AutoCAD. Web viewer sharing, production reports, and financial analysis are optional cloud features.

Supported inputs: Satellite imagery and elevation data, drone point clouds, contour lines (polyline or point based), KML files, and PVsyst PAN/OND files. Mesh spacing from 0.5 m to 30 m.

Exports: Bill of quantities, pile coordinates, and cable length schedules (Excel); terrain surfaces (CSV) and 3D table scenes PVCollada (.pvc) for PVsyst; 3D KML for Google Earth; shareable browser-based 3D web viewer with shadow simulation; production and financial reports (PDF and Excel).

Proven results: On a 30 MWp reference project, pile-adapted grading cut earthwork from 118,000 m3 to 35,000 m3 (70% less, $727K saved). Cable topology comparison shortened cable runs by 14% ($430K saved). Full case studies at pvx.ai.

Key capabilities: Dynamic shading layout from sun position and date, Capacity Iteration for pitch and tilt comparison, terrain-following trackers, collision detection on 3D conversion, drainage and soil compaction analysis, voltage drop verification, and automatic labeling of the full electrical hierarchy.
