Structural quantity surveying and rebar planning in Revit projects typically requires exporting data to external tools, manually sorting elements by category or level, and building reports from scratch — a process that is slow, error-prone, and repeated on every project milestone. Optimizing rebar cutting patterns across multiple diameters adds another layer of complexity that is impractical to handle manually.
Quick QS & Cut Optimization combines two powerful workflows into a single tool. The Quantity Survey module reads structural element data directly from the Revit model and generates a combined Quantity Takeoff (QTO) and Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) report in seconds. The Cut Optimization module applies a multi-start Best-Fit Decreasing bin-packing algorithm to selected Rebar elements, computing the most efficient way to cut required bar lengths from standard 12-meter stock bars to minimize steel waste.
The QTO covers all primary structural categories — Structural Columns, Walls, Structural Framing, Floors, and Structural Foundations — and extracts dimensions, levels, volumes, areas, and material assignments automatically. The BBS reads bar diameter, length, quantity, partition, and host element from every Rebar element and groups them into a formatted schedule with a summary by diameter and total steel weight in kilograms.
Cut optimization results are presented in a visual table where each row renders a proportional bar diagram showing cut segments as colored blocks with their lengths labeled, a count circle below each segment, and an optional rebar number label above. Waste segments are highlighted in red. Results can be exported to Excel with the visual diagram embedded as an image, printed to PDF, or drawn as a Drafting View inside Revit with filled colored regions representing each cut segment.
Both modules output clean tabbed previews before any export, so engineers can review and verify data before generating deliverables.
Key Features:
- Quantity takeoff for all major structural categories: Columns, Walls, Beams, Floors, and Foundations
- Five flexible selection modes for structural elements: All in Current View, Manual Selection, By Level, By Element Type, and By Material
- Vertical elements support dual-level filtering (Base Level and Top Level)
- Automatic extraction of dimensions, area, volume, count, and material for each element group
- Bar Bending Schedule with bar number, diameter, length, quantity, total length, unit weight, and total weight
- BBS summary table grouped by diameter with totals
- Rebar filtering by bar number, partition, host element category, or diameter
- Multi-start Best-Fit Decreasing algorithm with triple-combination lookahead for minimum steel waste
- Supports all rebar diameters simultaneously in a single cut optimization run
- Proportional visual bar diagram per cutting pattern with labeled lengths and segment counts
- Summary by diameter: gross weight, net weight, waste weight, and waste percentage
- Toggle between millimeter and meter display units
- Export to Excel with embedded visual diagram image
- Export to PDF via the system print dialog
- Create Drafting View in Revit with filled colored regions for each cut segment
Why Choose Quick QS & Cut Optimization?
- Speed: generates a full structural takeoff, BBS, and cutting plan in seconds, replacing hours of manual work
