Chain Curve is a productivity add-in for Fusion designed to turn fragmented model edges into clean, continuous sketch geometry.
Complex, imported and surface-based CAD models often contain boundaries made from many separate edges. Selecting these edges manually can be slow and repetitive, particularly on moulded, organic or highly detailed geometry. Small gaps or discontinuities can also cause problems when the resulting geometry is used for downstream operations such as Patch, Loft and surface creation.
Chain Curve simplifies this workflow using intelligent route prediction. Select a starting model edge and Chain Curve analyses the surrounding connected geometry to determine and display a predicted route. This allows long chains of model edges to be followed quickly without manually selecting every individual segment.
Key features:
• Intelligent route prediction – analyses connected geometry and predicts the likely continuation of the selected chain.
• Play – advances through the predicted route in a controlled manner.
• Fast Forward – automatically follows the predicted route for rapid selection of longer chains.
• Manual routing – where several possible directions exist, select an alternative edge to control the direction of the chain.
• Rewind – step backwards through the selected chain if you want to change the route.
• Gap detection and bridging – identifies discontinuities and provides tools to bridge suitable gaps between model edges.
• Close-loop support – helps create complete closed boundaries where the geometry allows.
• Sketch creation – converts the completed chain into sketch geometry for use in normal Fusion workflows.
When the chain is completed, Chain Curve reports the number of selected edges, resulting sketch curves and chain status, including whether gaps have been detected. The resulting sketch can then be used for operations such as Patch, Loft, surface creation and other modelling workflows.
Chain Curve is particularly useful when working with imported CAD, surface models, tooling, composite components, moulded parts and other geometry containing boundaries split across numerous faces or short edge segments.
Chain Curve is designed to reduce repetitive edge selection while giving the user control over the final route and resulting sketch geometry.
